NIR 2011 will be hosted by the Rainbow Nation, South Africa. We all know that the NIR region starts just after the visible region, i.e. just after red. Thus our slogan; NIR at the end of the rainbow. The rainbow colours in the logo are self explanatory whereas the beaded spectra symbolize South Africa where beaded handcrafts are plentiful!

Ian Wesley plays the Vuvuzela in Adelaide, South Australia

June 2010 - Marena Manley attended the 14th Australian Near Infrared Spectroscopy Conference where she presented a keynote lecture on invitation from ANISG. She also was given the opportunity to invite the Australians to attend NIR 2011 in a year's time, again wearing the NIR 2011 Makaraba. This time she entrusted her Makaraba to Peter Flinn for safekeeping (in exchange for an Australian hat!). Marena did not try to play the Vuvuzela in Adelaide, but rather left it to a professional, Dr Ian Wesley from BRI, Sydney!

'Having seen the quality of NIR spectroscopy research being done in Australia (and New Zealand), I hope to see many delegates from down under in Cape Town next year', says Marena.
